Building the Compliance Automation Platform for Safety-Critical Hardware
How we built the core platform for Saphira.ai — an intelligent compliance and safety management system replacing legacy tools for companies building robotics, autonomous vehicles, and aerospace hardware.
Vanta for Hardware
Saphira.ai is an intelligent compliance and safety management platform for companies building safety-critical hardware — robotics, autonomous vehicles, and aerospace systems. They needed to replace legacy tools like IBM DOORS and Jama Connect with a modern, AI-powered platform that could automate the compliance workflows that traditionally required expensive consultants and months of manual work.
Hardware companies had no equivalent of Vanta
While software companies have tools like Vanta for SOC 2 compliance, hardware companies building safety-critical products were stuck with decades-old tools and expensive consultant-driven processes.
Engineers did not know when design changes broke certification requirements. Each iteration required costly consultant engagement, creating expensive rework cycles that could delay product launches by months.
Legacy tools (IBM DOORS, Jama) with poor UX and no AI capabilities
No real-time visibility into compliance status across teams
Expensive rework cycles driven by manual consultant reviews
Design changes silently breaking certification requirements
Months of manual work for each compliance submission
Five core systems powering the platform
AI-Powered Document Parsing Engine
Parses design documents, engineering specifications, and regulatory standards using large language models to automatically extract requirements and generate supplier specifications. The engine handles complex multi-format documents including PDFs, CAD annotations, and structured data exports.
Key Capabilities
Automated Risk Assessment & FMEA Generation
AI-powered risk analysis that generates Failure Mode and Effects Analysis reports, replacing weeks of manual consultant work. The system identifies potential failure modes from design data and automatically scores severity, occurrence, and detection ratings.
Key Capabilities
Full Traceability System
Links requirements and design artifacts to code, tests, simulations, and models including SysML, CAD, and FEA/CFD. Engineers know instantly when a design change breaks certification — eliminating surprise compliance failures during review cycles.
Key Capabilities
Compliance Report Generation
Automatic compliance reports formatted for TUV, UL, and CE certification bodies. Supports ISO 26262 (automotive), ISO 10218 (robotics), ISO 12100 (machinery safety), and IEC 61508 (functional safety) standards out of the box.
Key Capabilities
Test Management Framework
Release safety review workflows and test management integrated with the traceability system. Engineers can plan, execute, and track tests with full linkage to requirements and design artifacts, ensuring complete coverage for certification submissions.
